Crufts is top of the dog show calendar, but sport is high on the agenda for many owners and their pooches all year round. There are many sports that involve both dog and owner, they can be competitive and fun for the participants. Carting, bikejoring, skijoring and cani-cross all involve mushing or pack competition for dogs. These races involve teams of dogs pulling sledges, bikes or carts across courses and are very popular in North America, Canada and parts of central Europe. This is also a popular spectator sport with people lining courses, cheering on their favourite teams. And afterwards, teams can drop in to their local dog groomers in Cardiff.
For those of us who want to get involved, there are less intense hiking options, for example, the Wye Valley where there are many hikes suitable for dog and owner, and then pop in to your favourite Chepstow dog groomer for a well-earned pamper. Dock jumping is the high board for dogs. Participants jump for height or length from a dock into a pool. No back flips or double turns, but this is an amazing way for a dog to do one of their favourite things, jumping in water! In 2012, several dogs took the plunge in Cardiff to help raise funds for Sport Relief.
